ONE NIGHT ONLY | COMMUNITAS: Art, Music, Dance
Who does the urbanite become when distracted by bright lights and alternating colours?
Communitas; latin for community is defined within Anthropology as “the sense of sharing and intimacy that develops among persons who experience liminality as a group.”
Our exhibition looks to Wellington’s club and skate culture as an example of our own Communitas. Creating a space in which the urban audience of Pōneke are considered not as consumers and producers, but as sensory beings.
MY CONTRIBUTIONS:
I deconstructed a skate ramp and rebuilt it inside of B space.
Two videos of mine played on loop through the night on the club TV screens. Both were filmed in a tripped globe style with the insta360. One was a skateboarding video, and the other was a club video (by theme).
In the smokers area I posted up alot of my photography against the concrete wall.
I also set up a playstation with Skate 3 for people to play with in the back of the club. I built a table out of old skateboards for the people to sit around.
Have a look at a video run through on my instagram here (slide to 9):
